Disney XD has released a new trailer for its newest animated series, TRON: Uprising. Featuring character design work by Robert Valley, storyboards by Eric Canete, and music by Daft Punk collaborator Joseph Trapanese, the new cartoon would seem to live up to the stunning visual and aural standard set by TRON: Legacy. You can see and hear for yourself in the video below.

TRON: Uprising features story work by Legacy screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and is set between that sequel and the original TRON. In this cartoon, Tron trains a successor, a young program called Beck, to take his place in defending the The Grid from Clu 2, the villainous program who betrayed The Grid’s human creator, Kevin Flynn.

I think it is fair to say this material looks amazing, and is far beyond what many of us expected when word first came of a weekly TRON animated series. While both live-action films are superlative in their own rights, both have definitely left something to be desired with respect to the story of The Grid itself. There’s a lot of potential in creator Steven Lisberger’s computer world there that remains untapped, and Disney would seem to agree, having staffed up TRON: Uprising with some auspicious talents indeed. The series features not just the work of Lost and Once Upon a Time writers Horowitz and Kitsis, brilliant iillustrators like Canete and Valley (who channel some of the much missed ferocity of Æon Flux), and music by the immensely talented Trapanese (seriously, his work with Daft Punk on the Legacy score is excellent), but also an impressive voice cast including Elijah Wood, Lance Henrikson, Paul Reubens and the original Tron himself, Bruce Boxleitner.

TRON: Uprising debuts June 7 on the Disney XD network.

The shorts in this weekend’s DC Nation on Cartoon Network are all about the education: When Aquaman is out of town, who better to deal with the dangers of the aquatic Black Manta than a hero who swims with the fishes (literally)? And just what kind of sports does Superman like?

Alongside another installment of the Aardman Animation vox populi series DC’s World’s Funnest — Although, judging from this clip, isn’t this a re-run of the first episode? — this Saturday will see a second episode of the ridiculously fun Animal Man shorts, this time seeing him face-off against Aquaman’s arch-nemesis in a showdown to reveal who the true hero of the beach really is:

As well as these two shorts, there’ll also be full length episodes of Green Lantern: The Animated Series (including the origin of a new Red Lantern) and Young Justice, with the latter seeing the one thing standing between the Earth and an alien invasion being Beast Boy. Yeah, we’re probably all going to be in trouble come Sunday…

DC Nation airs at 10am every Saturday on Cartoon Network.

In this amazing clip from last night’s South Park, schoolteacher Mr. Garrison tries to explain the complex history behind the world of Westeros. You can watch the full episode, “Cartman Finds Love,” on South Park’s official website. CLICK THRU TO WATCH on kotaku.com

This weekend during Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block, Supergirl will have to deal with being grounded. No, she’s not walking across America, just being kept at home under the orders of a certain Cousin of Steel for misbehaving. When her super best friends Wonder Girl and Batgirl arrive seeking her aide in a battle against evil, however, the young heroine can’t resist lending a hand. Too bad her only living relative is impossibly good at enforcing rules. See a clip from this weekend’s Super Best Friends Forever short, “Grounded,” after the jump. Flashpoint. The alternate DC Comics history that reshaped the DC Universe and led to the DC Relaunch and the New 52 last year.

And now, it appears, to be the next DC Direct-To-DVD movie, according to Kevin Conroy who commonly plays Batman in such animations, and recorded his role in the new movie the other night…

The New Teen Titans are doing the time warp again during this week’s DC Nation block on Cartoon Network, with the 1960s-obsessed Mad Mod (and his TARDIS-like machine) giving the 2012 teen superheroes a righteous 1990s makeover. Yes, including a mullet or two, and yes, we have a clip under the jump to prove it. As if that weren’t enough, there’s also some appropriately cartoony Plastic Man to see as well.

While the Teen Titans seem a little thrown off by the manifestation of their retro look, I particularly love that each character actually gets a version of their 1990s comic look. For those younger than a certain age, Beast Boy’s hair really did look like that back then, even if he was going by “Changeling.” The looks are overall a nice touch given the name of this series of animated shorts is New Teen Titans, just like the comic series which ran from 1980-1996.

[Editors Note: I think Mad Mod's henchmen are supposed to be Power Rangers maybe? Whoah! -- Caleb]

Plastic Man doesn’t travel through time in his short, which wouldn’t affect his generally more timeless costume anyway, but he does get meta with a short that sees him trapped inside your television…

Elsewhere on tomorrow’s DC Nation, Hal and Kilowog find themselves stranded on an alien planet with supplies (and power rings) running low in Green Lantern: The Animated Series, while Young Justice finally reveals the identity of the traitor in the team’s midst.

DC Nation begins at 10am Eastern/Pacific tomorrow on Cartoon Network.

Now for the other cult favorite that I never really understood. The more I watched this gender bent episode of Adventure Time, the more I realize how screwed up this was.
